Where did Reflexology come from?

Reflexology can be found in almost every continent and ancient civilization. In China, the first written form of reflexology was found in a Chinese book, called the Yellow Empire, which was written 1000 BC. It is believed that Marco Polo translated a Chinese reflexology book in the 1300’s introducing reflexology to Europe. In South America the ancient Indians had a system to heal the body using foot points, called the Mara System. Within India many use reflexology as part of their Ayurvedic practice. Around 2300 BC in Egypt, there were hieroglyphics found on the tombs of Egyptian physicians. These hieroglyphics showed the practice of foot reflexology to heal the body. Even in North America, the Native Americans, especially the Cherokees, have been using a form of reflexology in their healing practices.

So you can see, reflexology has been around for thousands of years. Its benefits have been passed down from generation to generation. These ancient healing practices were too valuable to have been forgotten and lost. Thankful we still have them today to use for our own healing.
